Ildjarn
Forest Poetry
[Norse League Productions/Napalm]

I believe the words "raw as fuck" would nicely describe the music spat forth here by everyone's favorite forest creature, Ildjarn. No production, no proper usage of the instruments....yeesh! Ildjarn is for the most part PURE fucking black metal, surpassing even the rawness of many Polish bands, Darkthrone, or even most band demo's!! Song structures follow the same pattern: Blasting drums, ripping (and I mean ripping) distorted guitars and vile screeching vocals. I guess some comparison's can be made to early mid-era Darkthrone or early Graveland (although no where near as good as either of these groups). Sadly enough, unless your completely drunk, this doesn't exactly add up to a very good time. It will take you a decent set of ears and a lot of patience to make your way through this 51 minute disc. Each song sounds quite similar, the production and lack of instrumental knowledge get's annoying after a while, and the amount of blood that shall pour from you ears doesn't do you much good either. Although there's nothing out there that I enjoy more than a raw black metal album, this is simply too rough and badly played to provide any non-novelty related interest. It can be fun in moderation, and if your in the correct frame of mind...but perhaps I'm just missing the point....(?) :(
