Anatomy
Where Angels Die
[Modern Invasion]

What a lovely intro is used to set this album up. Simple synth, acoustic guitars, and a load of ambience create a wonderfully painful minute and a half. We're immediately thrown into some distortion, demonic vocals, a strange solo, and of course some fine metal. Anatomy do an excellent job on this release, combining old style death metal, with modern black metal, and some fantastic keyboard work. Not nearly as violent as some Aussie bands, the lot instead concentrate on creating a more hateful mood, and much like Necromass (this reminds me of the Italian bands' latest) some fantastic (and at times depressing) riffs.

Running for a decent forty-five minutes, the entire album is filled with a feeling of triumphant old school death metal, but the heavy combination of modern black metal vocals and at times riffs makes the entire CD not only grim, but highly interesting to listen to. At one moment the band is using solo's and riffs, the next slowing down for some depressive synth work, and using Marty's very angry sounding vocals, even manage to pull off some "epic" moments here and there. Obviously this is worth checking into.

The album is far from perfect though. The music becomes stale after a few listens, especially since none of the songs really live up to the excellent first track "Last pleasures for those of the apocalypse of hate". The production doesn't always fit the music either, since it ends up being a tad too "fuzzy" at times, a fell that doesn't do the music any justice. Other than that though, the CD is no less than worth purchasing, since it's an obviously worthy listen. Any band that has a member called "Hippyslayer" is good in my books anyways.
