Celtic Frost / Bathory
Split Bootleg
[bootleg]

Ouch. That word basically sums this release up. Miserable sound quality, a severe lack of effort, and some sub-standard material make this a terribly messy release. Whoever made this bootleg is either extremely lazy, or very, very stupid. Let's get this over with:

Track one is the Hellhammer song "Triumph of Death". It's hard to hear anything besides SS's vocals howling all over the place. Coupled with the fact that the band were probably drunk, and the tape cutting out every 5 seconds, it's less than a wonderful track. Tracks 2-8 are from a Celtic Frost live show from 1985. Decent sound quality actually, and besides the drunken Texan accented idiot that introduces the band, everything works out fairly well. Drums, guitars, and vocals can all be clearly heard, and such decent songs as "Into the Crypts of Rays" (which is spelt wrong on the case) and "Circle of the Tyrants" are heard in some of their glory.

Next up is an Emperor track, which adds nothing really. They are heard rehearsing to "The Usurper", and although better then the new CD (hehe), does nothing for me really. That is followed by another decent quality sounding Hellhammer track, and then the Bathory demo. I've personally heard better dubs of the demo before, and it truly disgusts me how fifteen seconds into the first track, the sound level drops 200 levels. It makes the entire thing impossible to hear. If the quality had stayed the same for the first fifteen seconds then maybe....but it ends up being rubbish.

This is terrible really. Although it's nice to hear some of the material, better quality recordings can be found through various traders all over the place. The pictures are ok I suppose, but again no effort has been put into them. I look forward to the day someone makes a quality bootleg.
