Urgehal
Arma Christi
[No Colours]

"The new Darkthrone" I've heard people say. And that is for the most part true. Urgehal have changed a little from their original demo, as the music repeats itself less, and the vocals have gone a little deeper. The music presented over the course of these eight tracks and forty-seven minutes is no less than amazing though, as it remains hateful, cold, and dripping with individual Celtic Frost and Darkthrone sections.

Take the track "The Night Armageddon Comes" for example. The song builds itself in a very simple Celtic Frost fashion, stops for a moment, and then jumps into a riff you'd swear came from a Darkthrone album. Urgehal are not rip-offs though, as they do create their old feel, and rightfully do it quite nicely. This is quality and non-trendy black metal, filled with both an ancient and modern feel.

My favourite tracks are the "angrier Celtic Frost" track mentioned above, and the final track, "Dethronation of god", with it's old-style chorus and lyrics that drip with black metal glee :] I've heard the band will take a more raw take to their music with the upcoming CD, and that could be positive if you ask me. This disc is worth picking up for sure, and I'll truly appreciate this lot if the next release can hold a candle to the hateful/grim/cold/evil/old-style mixed with loads of modern feeling- holocaust created here. Simply great!
