Eschatos
Child Of The Ashes
[Pussy God]
Not a lot of people are going to hear this one since it is limited to 333
copies. Oh well. Eschatos may be just another Polish band, but they were a
very welcome change for me after the dreadful Hornagest demo. The first two
tracks, "One Light, One Shadow" and "Child Of The Ashes," are pretty good
actually. Nothing out of the ordinary but competently done black metal,
really tight and crispy, with minimal use of keyboards and pleasant acoustic
breaks thrown in for good measure. On the following two songs, "The Days Of
Sorrow" and "Depth," Eschatos decide to experiment a little and try to
implant some NWBHM riffs into their black metal framework. It doesn't sound
as bad as you might think. Not too bad because the band proceed rather
carefully with their endeavor and do not try to overdo it. The closing track
"...And Pain Born Dawn's" slows things down a couple of notches and prepares
you for the exit. Overall, "Child Of The Ashes" is quite listenable,
especially the first two tracks. Nothing to tell your grandchildren about
you understand, but I guess it's worth a try if you can track it down.
