Agathodaimon
Blacken The Angel
[Nuclear Blast]

Hmmm ... there are parts of this CD that I do quite enjoy and there are parts that just plain seem to follow all the trends that have plagued the true scene of black metal, namely the inclusion of gothic elements. I must admit that I do enjoy the guitar playing and some of the harmonies they create. Mostly mid-paced and quite melodic (though my preferences lie towards the harsher aspects of black metal), but interesting none the less. Being an old school dude my problem with Agathodaimon stems from the use of keys and the occasional female vocals. Keyboards just seem to undermine the aspect of heaviness (They are not mandatory for black metal, people!!!). Chicks rule but I don't wish to hear sweet vocals in black metal. Give me a vocalist who gargles with shattered glass any day!!! Liking this CD really comes down to being of the Cradle Of Filth type of black metal fan or not. Simple as that. I say don't believe the hype from Nuclear Blast, Agathodaimon are not that special nor original.
