Cryptic Slaughter
Stream of Consciousness
[Death/Metalblade]

This LP (their third & last - they've disbanded) is another fav of mine. First of all, the production will be hated by most, as it seems like it's a rehearsal tape by the raw, noisy production. I like it, as it suits the material. The 2nd LP (Money Talks) was clean and it gave the LP an edge over others, since most bands are inspired by the speedcore blur classic "Convicted" (Cryptic Slaughter's first LP). The weird slow riffs we've come to expect are here but are much heavier with this "bad" production. There aren't as many speed parts, but that's good as this is more of a hardcore than metal record. Bill Crooks' vocals are *so* raw this time around as well, due partly to the intense production job (done by the band themselves). Lyrically, this LP once again is one of the best : topics touched upon are religion/prey tv ("Circus of Fools"), freedom of speech ("Aggravated"), being backstabbed ("See Through You"), and manipulation by (I think) media, gov't, and big business ("One Last Thought").

A great album by a great band (RIP). Guitarist Les Evans is getting a new band together so hopefully we still may get a chance to hear some of this newer stuff played live here in Toronto.
