Morrigan
Plague, Waste And Death
[Barbarian Wrath]

From the ashes of Mayhemic Truth rises Morrigan with "Plague, Waste, and Death", their first release. It picks up not too far from where Mayhemic Truth left off with their Bathory-ish epic take on rawer black metal (I mean thrashing black riffs constructing epic songs, not the other way around...). I think Morrigan is a heavier take on that formula while still retaining that epic sense. Heavier riffs and more use of Beliar's black vocals make this a much angrier beast than MT, but the epic melancholy still comes through, especially on the fantastic closer "Where the Angels Keep Silence" with the slower riffing and great choir vocals. This album is just as likely to make you bang your head as grab the sword and go on a conquering spree. Fucking great stuff.
