Absurd
Asgardsrei
[Ig Farben Produktion]

The 1998 offering from Absurd features five songs, within these five songs Absurd range in musical passages from a military march type intro, complete with background samples of war, very interesting and a good way to start off the album, to mid-paced distorted guitars and rough-edged vocals displayed very prominently over the music.

Absurd play their music simply, yet display very catchy melodies within their music, simple, nothing fancy, but quite effective.

Crur Gammata is my personal highlight of the album. The music is at a set pace, the vocals replaced by German spoken speech samples in the background, very well done.

The clean vocals present on the album are another of my personal highlights, most European clean vocalists in the black metal (related) scene are something to be feared for their torturous effects upon the hearing, but Absurd make good use of their clean spoken passages, and the end result is wanting more, not less (i.e. -Germanien Uber Alles-). Sonnenritter is a (almost) ambient piece, featuring dark whispers, harsh vocals, and a orchestrated background, together for a excellent ambient experience.

Absurd play their music effectively, in it, you can hear purpose, there are better musicians with Absurd, but they lack what Absurd have, spirit, Absurd play a forgotten brand of music, which is great to relive with each play.

Personal Favorites: Algardfrei; Crur Gammata; Germanien Unber Alles
