Master
Collection Of Souls
[Nuclear Blast]
I know Master/Paul Speckman is supposed to be legendary in the death/
thrash metal underground. This is the first full length I have come
across and I'm glad I did. Very, very enjoyable old school happy thrash.
The drumming by Aaron Nickeas cracked me up at first. He's good, but his
simple punky polka-type beats haven't been used since M-Bro was in Razor!
Glad he uses them minimally. Jeff Kobie's leads are pretty cool
too. Speckman's singing/songwriting is concise. The songs are catchy.
I can see a range of folks enjoying this, as it is sort of crossover
in a Sacrifice/Sudden Impact-type of way, The cover of Thin Lizzy's
"Jailbreak" is cool, not just a duplicate of the original. This was
released in 1993 and I wish I had heard it sooner. Fans of Kreator,
Whiplash, Razor, early Metallica, Sodom, etc will enjoy MASTER. The tracks are-
Constant Reminders/ Taste of Insanity/ Hidden Stories/ Glorify the Dead/
Blinded Faith/ Justice or Fate/ Jailbreak/ Collection of Souls/ Silver
Spoon.
