Abysmal
The Pillorian Age
[Avantgarde]

If there is an underrated Norwegian black metal band, then this would be it. Presumed to be defunct although no one seems to actually know for sure, but seeing how they have been gone without a trace since the mid nineties, it is highly questionable if they are still around. What they perform on this album was by the label Avantgarde, called occult black metal from Norway, and occult black metal can be fitting, because it has a certain mysterious, dark and yes occult feel to it, but a more generic description would be black/doom. The utter dark and sinister atmosphere they manage to create, is beyond anything else that has ever come from Norway, if you ask me, it really makes the lunacy flow free in your head. When listening to this masterpiece, one should shut out all light, just sit and see the pictures your mind creates. If there ever was an album to go insane by, this is it, if there ever was an album to put you in a suicidal trance, this is it. Most can't or won't see past the first impression that one almost surely will get, namely that this is dull and really not anything special. But this is an album that needs to grow on you, and you on it! You should keep listening to this, over and over and over and over and over until you can feel it, until you no longer hear this album, but feel it, go insane by it. Do follow what ever voices you may hear...
