Novembers Doom
The Knowing
[Dark Symphonies]

Novembers Doom have been around awhile. So far they have released- a debut full length CD "Amid It's Hallowed Mirth" (Avant Garde/ Nuclear Blast), a compilation track for Pavement Music, in 1997 the EP "For Every Leaf That Falls", and their second full length album "Of Sculptured Ivy And Stone Flowers" (Martyr Music Group, Inc). "The Knowing" is the latest from this Chicago band.

I will agree the are "dark, depressing doom death" metal. Slow, mellow, heavy, depressing, suicidal, well played... Paul Kuhr's vocals go from clean to deathy. If you dig Paradise Lost, Anathema, Katatonia, Opeth, and My Dying Bride, then check out Novembers Doom. My favourite track would have to be "The Day I Return" due to the Black Sabbath-type jamming. I don't really want to say this, as it could turn off potential listeners, but fuck, I have to be honest. There's a slight Metallica mellow feel to this, like that Wherever I Roam, but at least it's done well, and let's assume Novembers Doom aren't and won't turn into pretentious rock stars like aforementioned moneygrabbers. There will be a limited edition pressing including special packaging and a bonus track of a second rendition of "Silent Tomorrow" (although I can't tell the difference, then again the guys at work say I'm deaf).
