Mortifier
Darkness My Eternal Bride
[BattleGod]

Mortifier are amongst my top recommendations for those of you who wish Darkthrone had released a number of other albums similar to "A Blaze in the Northern Sky". "Darkness my Eternal Bride", released by none other than BattleGod Productions (Baltak) are an Italian group, and a damn fine one at that. While there are a number of massive similarities between this album and Darkthrone's first official black metal outing, Mortifier have a certain flair that is all their own.

Not unlike "A Blaze in the Northern Sky", you can hear the gigantic Hellhammer/Celtic Frost influence in this band. It's actually a good deal more blatant at times. Mortifier concentrates even MORE on slow, doomy parts JUST like Frost though, and don't particularly overdo it in the speed department. Most of the songs are around the six to ten minute mark, so they take loads of time developing each track.

I'll freely admit that this mCD fucking destroys. Many bands have tried to do an album similar, and most importantly, just as GOOD as Darkthrone's second, but they usually fall on their faces (especially in the boredom department). Mortifier, on the other hand, have it all: cold, doomy, and inspiring riffs, disgusting vocals that DRIP with evil, and a killer production (like on "A Blaze"!). An outstanding mCD, and quite possibly the best band to emulate Darkthrone, superior to Urgehal's "Arma Christi" LP even, and just behind Warloghe/Vlad Tepes/Mutiilation!
