Abigor
Channeling the Quintessence of Satan
[Napalm]
Abigor’s new full length album came out on ’99. After the vocalist
Silenius has left the band a new vocalist named Thurisaz has joined the
band. This have a large influence on Abigor sound but it does not make
it any less good only somewhat different because the new singer doesn’t
even reminds Silenius.
About the music, I must say that this is probably the last thing I
would’ve expect from this band the music is very brutal fast and
screechy, the feeling is very aggressive and energetic and mostly all
you hear is high treble guitars blasting drums and demonic screams all
this under a Darkthrone like production.
At first it was kind of hard for me to hear this album because I thought
that Abigor had lost all of its magic and could do so much better but
after a while I start to understand this release and found the good
sides of it, like the excellent guitar riffs and their ability to make
really high speed powerful brutal music and not making it sound like a
total mess never the less keep it chaotic as hell. Every song has a
keyboard intro but not what you’re used to but a short few synthesized
notes and some f/x’s I think the purpose of these is to make this 8
piece album into one unit and because there is no song that stands up
above the others in it’s general sound it works good and so you drown
into this vortex of brutality and swept away by the music of this
musical geniuses even though there are no melodies ,slow parts or
acoustical breaks , Abigor show that they can make fucking great music
without them. This album is only recommended to those of you who likes
real unstoppable brutal music it reminds of Ulver’s’s case with “Nattens
Madrigal” and proves that a good band can rely only on their brutal
elements and create a whole album from them. I only wonder if Abigor
will continue with this line of music or will come back to their prior
style.
