Shamash
Eternal As Time
[OZ]

This will appease fans who appreciate recordings from first CD Arcturus, and Emperor. The band are extremely professional, as everything from the powerful production to blatant technicality of the instruments are miles beyond so many other "quality" metal bands. While this isn't my style, the band do it so well, not to mention that each track is VERY catchy, that I couldn't help but enjoy and recommend the album.

Musically, Shamash are not unlike a quality (guitar driven) version of "Aspera Hymns Symfonia" Arcturus and older Emperor. The music runs around in that style at least. The band also has two distinct vocal styles going on. One is a near copy of Solefald (background), while the lead vocals are rather opposing. They are memorable though, as they drip with raw power. I would love to hear the vocalist in a traditional black metal band, as he absolutely crushes…

Loads of melodic riffs that come close to catching Dissection in a developed Maiden sense, great, varied drumming, tons of acoustic guitars, and those vocals! They just drip with anger! The music is best described as "powerful", as the riffs do tend to inspire. There's even a melodic four-minute BASS ONLY track in the middle of the disc!

If Shamash were from Norway, they would be selling loads of records and receiving the praise of numerous (hypocritical and trendy) magazines. Instead, they are from Mexico, and are cursed to never see beyond the (honest) underground. "Eternal as Time" is a worthy listen, especially if you're worried about throwing your money away on something unprofessional. It will not disappoint if you're looking for quality, memorable, and melodic metal!
