In Conspiracy With Satan -
Tribute To Bathory
[Hellspawn/No Fashion]

So the Swedes end up behind the Greeks in order of Bathory tributes. Unless I'm mistaken, there's a third tribute floating around there as well, with tracks leading all the way up to "Blood on Ice", probably on Black Mark.

With every band but Emperor and Satyricon hailing from Sweden, it would have made more sense to call this "SWEDEN'S tribute to our fellow countryband". Everything is well explained, but it would kill if someone had covered "One road to Asa Bay" or "Father to Son"! Track listing is as follows:

1) Marduk: In Conspiracy With Satan (Damn cool. Great production; a worthy cover)
2) Ophthalamia: Sacrifice (Very similar to the original to tell you the truth. Mr. All even sounds like Quorthon)
3) Gehennah: Reaper (Great guitar production! Mr. Violence has a great accent on his vocals too)
4) Dark Funeral: Equimanthorn (One of my favorite Bathory tracks, and it's well produced here)
5) Emperor: A Fine Day to Die (Sounds a little like Spinal Tap instead of Bathory as it opens, but believe me it fucking rips when the guitars start grinding. Ihsahn's vocals don't sound like crap either! I wish Emperor would follow this path instead of the one they've been going down for numerous years now!)
6) Lord Belial: Massacre (Far from a strong production as on the original, rather weak actually)
7) The Abyss: Armageddon (An unnecessary inclusion, as it captures NONE of the power of the original tracks, one of the finest Bathory tracks insulted…)
8) Marduk: Woman of Dark Desires (Good stuff, just like their other inclusion)
9) Nifelheim: Die in Fire (Excellent! Besides being total Bathory clones early on, you can't help but admit the bastards understand how to fucking capture the evil!)
10) Necrophobic: Enter the Eternal Fire (Another very recognizable cover song, and it's not that bad. I think they overdo it going for the Bathory style guitar production though…)
11) Dark Funeral: Call from the Grave (Decent, but it just doesn't sound as good as when Quorthon screamed out those opening lyrics- of course!)
12) Sacramentum: 13 Candles (Another popular song, and the Swedes do it in style!)
13) Unanimated: Raise the Dead (Good stuff)
14) Satyricon: Born for Burning (Satyricon ruin another great song, not unlike how they BUTCHERED "Orgasmatron". Lowest point on the comp)
15) War: War (Simple and low-fi like the original, this is one of the better and more honest songs available during this hour of Bathory).

Some have mentioned that this release (or at least the original pressing) is destined to be a sought after item, as Black Mark is rather cranky with various (visual) copyrights. The packaging is amazing by the way, with tons of info in a fat digipak. Worth getting, even if you're not a Bathory fanatic (fuck off!)!
