Det Som Engang Var if you ask me is the Count's finest work ever created.. pure genious (insanity?) laid to disc.. The atmosphere provided by this album is untouched by anyone! (well.. Lux Occulta are the kings of atmosphere, but this is a different type) This album is filled with hatred, depression, disgust, and pure fucking insanity, what more could a black metaller ask for?!?!? Guitars are grinded out in perfect fashion, going from a deeper, faster, nasty deep roaring sound, to the higher, melodic, cold, depressing sound.. Varg truely knew how to create images with his music.. Bass is low in the background, barely heard.. Drums are top notch, somewhat repetitive, but in a good way, it fits the music perfectly.. Varg was very good with all of his instruments.. now back to the atmosphere.. this is quite simply the BEST album to go out and get if you are looking for an extremely vile, sick black metal release, tainted with throes of depression and sadness.. and eventhough there is an all synth track, it doesn't hurt the cd at all (you can just skip it!), and it leaves you with 7 of the best fucking black metal songs ever put out (even the instrumental is amazing), so, if you don't own this already.. what the fuck are you thinking?? GO GET THIS NOW
