I Det Glimrande Mörkrets Djup
[Near Dark]

I was looking for this CD for a long time, as some of my friends rave about this CD and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I just recently tracked this disc down, and I can say that it was better than I expected it to be. The first thing I noticed was the excellent singing (all done in Swedish) and the skillfully done drumming, but as soon as I listened to the entire CD all the way through I noticed that this band never gives the listeners a fucking break! It’s blast-beats and double-bass all the way, with a complete and utter lack of acoustic or ambient parts. It goes without saying that many Black Metal purists will love this CD. As far as the actual MUSIC goes, the riffs are complicated and evil-sounding but not overly skillful or technical (it reminds me of old-school Black Metal), the drums on warp-speed 100% of the time, and the singing is (as stated earlier) excellent. The lyrics are entirely in Swedish, which is a shame because I would like to know what they are singing about, but I think it is mostly Satanism, because of the CD’s artwork. This CD is a big fist in the face to all those Romantic and Gothic “Black Metal” trends going on right now, but besides that, there’s not much to say about it.

Pros: 100% pure Satanic Black Metal, commendable singing, good drumming
Cons: Swedish Lyrics, extremely hard to find
Style of music: Pure Black Metal, everything that Black Metal should be… Fast, Evil, and Raw.
Will Likely Appeal to: Old-school Black Metal Satanists

Overall: Excellent - 9.5/10
