Abruptum
Di Sonus Veris Nigrae Malitiacs
[Fullmoon]

This CD was custom designed to scare the shit out of your neighbors, but that’s one of the only purposes I can see for this ‘music’ (besides meditation and during meals…especially breakfast), as it’s basically just a lot of screams over a very evil and dissonant ‘musical’ background… I love it, but its definitely not easy-listening music…. ‘It’ the 1.5 meter tall gypsy (who is the only current member of Abruptum, and ‘too evil to have a human name’, hence the nom de guerre ‘It’) supposedly recorded the vocals on this disc during a self induced torture session… the result is a lot of beautiful pained screams and cries, the screams on this album are actually quite emotionally moving and powerful… a consequence of torture, I’m sure. The guitars are usually just making noise, whether it be by scratching the strings or smashing the guitar, no real riffs are played on this CD and with good reason… this CD was never meant to be music, and it isn’t, this CD was designed to give off a very dark and evil ambience, the way all real Black Metal should. Drums are sparsely used as well, for the same reasons. But by far the most surprising thing about this disc is that the production is really VERY good… odd, to say the least, for a CD like this. It is very hard to explain this CD, but I did my best (I’ll try to sum it up in the ‘Style of music’ section…), you really must buy the CD to see what I mean, if you think you can handle it, that is (this CD is NOT recommended to posers and the weak of stomach...).

Pros: Not applicable
Cons: Not applicable (how can you pass a musically based opinion on something that is not, nor tries to be, music?)
Style of Music: Ummm…. What music??? This disc is basically a lot of pained screams and shrieks over a VERY dissonant ‘musical’ framework, which is just a lot of noise and odd sounds. This is definitely not a musical CD and no doubt people have regretted buying it after they already did, thinking it was a more generic Black Metal disc, or something…
Will likely appeal to: The criminally insane, homicidal personalities, Rapists, Sadists, Serial killers, Muggers and institutionalized folks. Satanists might also like this CD once they get used to it; all the other people not mentioned should definitely stay away as this CD is certainly not for them.

Overall: I quite liked this CD but it is near impossible to grade… I could give it a 10/10, but I could just as easily give it a 2/10, this is in no way a measure of this disc’s value… everybody has their own taste. I really liked it, but this isn’t one of those CDs where you can say ‘well I don’t like the type of music they play, but they really know how to play their instruments and they are pretty good for the style of music that they play’ because there are very few instruments here, and if there are then they sure as hell ain’t played, and nobody else plays stuff, I mean, ‘music’ like this… this score is based upon personal taste alone… Good – 8.5/10
