Autumn Tears
Act III- Winter and The Broken Angel
[Dark Symphonies]

This is not a metal release in the slightest, but Autumn Tears has always managed to find a place amidst many a metal album collection and thus this release in particular deserves acknowledgement. First of all, the packaging is again gilded and extravagant, this time with silver print upon white parchment and a predominantly white slip cover to match. The music contained within is every bit as delectable with bright and smooth production and easily the best songs yet from the band. One thing I particularly enjoyed about "Act III..." was the more direct nature of the songs compared to Autumn Tears' previous outings. They are still auspicious and powerful but the progression of the album as a whole is more focused and engaging and thus prevents the individual songs from overstaying their welcome. The vocals of both Erika and Jen shine through stronger than ever and the careful premeditation of the vocal harmonies serve to elevate the music to new heights. The songs lilt and brood in accordance with the lyrics and in the end a very well developed concept shines though in a pleasantly subtle fashion. "Act III..." is a quality release in every respect and will surely garner Autumn Tears further acclaim and reverence.
