Absu
In The Eyes Of ioldánach
[Osmose]

Well Absu has never been much of a favorite of mine, and this surely isn't the MCD to alter my mind, although I must admit they have put a few good songs together, most of that is to be found on their older material. They seem to regress further and further into some odd sounding retro like material, mixed with some the south american atmosphere also found on Nifleheim's "Devil's Path" album, and although those might work in conjuction Absu just doesn't seem to be able to pull it off my opinion. It is really awful to listen to most of the time, because almost none of the elements actually work, sure there is some good riffs here and there, but an annoying sound, lousy vocal work, and other quite dull and miserable riffs take away any interest I could have had in the good riffs here and there. Of the four tracks to be found on this MCD I don't really find any of them to be of interest, which is a bit odd since one of them I heard on a compilation in a different version, where the song was one of the better

Absu had done in my opinion. This is an Absu release to stay far from, as it would appear they do not know what it is they want to do, and everything just muddles up in a lousy mixture of ideas that don't really work. Maybe I am being too harsh on this MCD, but it might be because I do hear what it could have been, had they worked more on it refined the ideas, a less irritating sound, and less of the german speed/thrash mixed, with average second wave black metal vocal style, because that is one of it's biggest drawbacks.
