Insanity
Death After Death
[M.B.R.]

This 1993 CD is faithful to the original lineup's sound. From the opener "Attack of Archangels" to the closing title track (still one of my favourite songs), I feel invincible! (I shouldn't say that, remember when Homer Simpson got nailed in the head with a beer keg after saying that?) AND TRY to overcome the feeling everytime you see the cover art to say "What the hell?! You gotta be kidding!" Joe De Zuniga made it in 1985 I assume from the liner notes (nice to have lyrics too).

The vocals are sick, deathy, gargly, and not as shrieky as I expected. Sort of a cross between Tom Araya/Evil Chuck and Paul Baloff. As well, their respective bands seem to have had an influence (Slayer, Death, Exodus). Actually INSANITY is in the same league as old Slayer, first Megadeth lp, Possessed, early Kreator, early Destruction, Exodus, etc. This Bay Area act will appeal to fans of newer bands like Bewitched, Witchery, Defleshed, Absu. All the songs were written between 1985-1991. Fast, frenetic, whiplashing, snappy.

Death After Death goes by too quick for me, only 8 tracks (one is an accoustic instrumental, "In Memory", for original vocalist, guitarist Joe De Zuniga who died before this could be recorded). As good as it is, this album really starts to pick up and shred starting with track 5 "Morbid Lust". If you can, try to get a listen somehow to "Blood For Blood", "Possession", or "Death After Death", and make sure you have something soft to fall on cuz this hidden gem will blow you away.
