Sometimes people entrenched in the black metal scene accuse death metal of being hippie entertainment music. Well, obviously those wussies only know Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under and stuff like that because this mighty INCANTATION album for example will be a mighty fist of evil up their ass. But, I wouldn't want to suggest any rivalry between black and death metal of course, merely emphasize the dark and EEEVILLLL nature of this release.

Utilizing a muffled and raw production (that bass guitar sound!) as medium we hear death metals most rancid bowel movements engulf us in all their voraciously repugnant glory. Incantation make brutal death metal with a great understanding of dark melody and of how to write actual SONGS instead of riff-wanks. Every ingredient is here; quirky breaks, lots of blasting, occasional sludgy parts, twisting noisy leads and the all-enveloping DEEP deathgrrrowls of Craig Pillard (as if his vocal cords are somewhere in his abdomen). What a vocalist!

The blood of baby jesus drips off this release (small wonder, with lovely titles as 'Christening The Afterbirth') and the lyrics stand as metaphor for what christianity and its prime delusion (g0d) is all about. Evil, twisted, sick and perverse death metal in the perfect sense of the word: quintessential. HAIL SATAN!
