Cirith Gorgor
Onwards to the Spectral Defile
[Osmose]

Here is another proof that good black metal isn't always a norwegian trade-mark.

CIRITH GORGOR (named after the Haunted Pass in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings") hail from the Netherlands and play their black/death metal in the aggressive way!

There's no compromise here, this is balls-to-the-wall armageddon!

The first song "The Declaration of our Neverending War" is a hyper-speed, blast-beat annihilation that will pound your ears and turn your head into squashed jellow!

The vocalist sounds like he was coming straight from the dungeons of hell, the guitarists storm like thunder, the bass pounds without remorse and the drummer must be a re-incarnated demon who was issued drum-sticks! (This guy is a sure contender for the fastest BM drummer award alongside Fredrik Andersson from MARDUK!)

The second song "Winter Embraces Lands Beyond" slows things down in the beginning with a magnificent guitar-intro and then developping into an other raging tempest like the first song!

All the songs continue in this breathtaking manner with only "A Hymn to the Children of Heimdall" slowing things down a little. Other killer songs are "Darkness Returns" and "Shadows over Isengard"! Ironically, the last song (an outro) is composed and performed only by a piano which creates a nice contrast with the rest of the album!

Ass-kicking!

9/10
