Gorgoroth
Destroyer
[Nuclear Blast]

Despite the fact that this once great band signed to Nuclear Blast, (a fact which made me want to vomit) I still had to listen to this album out of plain curiosity.

The opening track "Destroyer" made me a bit confused. I couldn't decide what to think about it. This was probably due to the fact that the song was a complete mess of various instruments getting raped by the band. But I still kept listening.

Moving on, "Open the Gates" was quite a decent song and my hopes for an ok album were increasing, but alas, then Gorgoroth take a (metaphorical) shit on the faces of their listeners. "The Devil, the Sinner and His Journey" (a song that I later renamed to: "The Jew, the Christian and Making Money") is possibly the crappiest Gorgoroth song ever made. The whole thing basically oozes with riffs coming from distant pink-ass galaxies and fag-dimensions.

Then, Gorgoroth come up with a pretty decent song "Om kristen og jodisk Tru" which has quite a good (shame on me for introducing that word in connection with this album! =)) main-riff.

All the so-called positive stuff ends here.

"Blodoffer" is SUCH a miserable effort I still can't believe it. During the whole song, an extremely ANNOYING industrial, homosexual banging noise makes me want to destroy my Hi-Fi system. The emotion this banging delivers can be compared to that of headbanging in a Death Metal concert when suddenly a gay-pride parade marches through.

"Pa Slagmarkt Land mot Nord" stinks from miles away with its highly incompetent drumming and pathetic vocals.

Then comes the climax of judeo-christian behaviour: "The Virginborn". This is one of those Nuclear Blast moneymakers which they'll later feature on their miserable compilations (probably on "Beauty in Darkness vol. 32 - let's make cash" ) and call it "true black metal".

The "album" ends with a lame cover of DARKTHRONE's "Slottet I Det Fjerne". Gaygoroth have managed to transform even this into something ridiculous.

Overall...should I really comment any further? Is there a point? Another Norwegian band dies...

3/10 (1+2 for 1 decent and 1 ok song)
