Allfather
Allfather
[Independant]

There must be something in Vancouver's water; perhaps it's just the ultra potent marijuana that seems to be popular there; I'm not 100% sure why, but when British Columbians play black metal, with the exception of the mighty Godless North, they make sure it's crushing and brutal beyond much of the over-produced crap that comes out of Abyss Studios.

Allfather returns with 5 new songs and an added lead vocalist. I'm not sure if this is a public release since I've not heard of any distros that carry it.

Anyway if you are not familiar with Allfather they play brutal black war metal that goes straight for the throat. Gone is the distinct low-pitched grindcore influence that was prominent on their demo, but that doesn't make this release any less destructive.

Menacing is the key word here; the songs never get repetitive since there is something always changing, be it tempo, riffing, or vocal layers. The songs here seem more mature than the ones on their demo, the maturity being inherent to their focus on the black war metal aspect of their brutality. Not at all the brainless bludgeoning that most 'war metal' bands tend to deliver, this MCD is more akin to a large scale blitz-krieg assault; short and fast, yet sleek, organized, and fucking lethal.
