Kratornas
The Onslaught of Battledemons
[Ligum Dulum]

If the black metal scene from some asiatique Pacifique country is well developed like in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia the Philippines scene look for be really little ; at least for the eye of an occidental. In fact, Kratornas is the only band from this country that I know ; but if all there scene is the reflection of this band, it's a scene who must been know.

Kratornas is a one-man band managed by Brian Zamora and "The Onslaught of Battledemons" is the fifth demo of the band. The Kratornas' style is hard to discribe, since it's mostly unique. But one thing it sure : it's only for people who like brutal and "exaggerated" music. He say in the booklet that he don't use drum machine, but in this case, I bet that he have accelerate the speed of the drum during the mixing, else, it'a a true superhuman machine (in fact, I think that he have accelerate all the album). I have some difficulty to compare this band to an other one : the only one who is similar that I know is Krvestreb from Turkey, but this band is yet more obscur than Kratornas, so that will don't help many person. But, they surly have some influence in Impaled Nazarene and Beherit, else if that don't sound like any of this two bands. The guitars is enough technical, and he sometime make some solo that let me think to the canadian band Lust (I mean, technical, but always violent and never "beautyful"). Some riffs are a little bite thrash, so that give some "beat" to the music. For the drum, like I've said before, I think that it was accelerated. It is relatively technical, but above all, very speed. For exemple, the slow drum part is praticly at the same speed than Immortal. For the vocal, it's mostly indescribable... Possibly think to an insane guy on the speeds who try to sing during that he drown himself in his beer.

In conclusion, Kratornas is very good ; for all persons that search for something of brutal, original and violent, it's for you. Marduk sound like Metallica in comparaison to Kratornas! Don't listens to that when your have your cat in your arm... you risk to pull out some of his parts unintentionnally.

"The Onslaught of Battledemons" = 9/10
