Megiddo
The Atavism Of Evil
[Barbarian Wrath]

I fear that Megiddo have painted themselves into a corner, and it's gonna take a long time for the paint to dry. The last album, "The Devil and the Whore" was a masterpiece of primitive punkish/folkish blackmetal with an oldschool edge that no other band could come near that year, but the new album is maybe too simple; the prospect of listening to the same punk riffs being played over and over again is not that attractive anymore. Don't get me wrong here, I believe that Megiddo has a vision, but the music quickly dissolves into a stream of distortion and the same chords churn seemingly endlessly throughout each of the nine songs, and it makes for a tedious experience.

On the positive side of things the lyrics are well worked out, and the attitude is there all right, and the sound is good with all its distortion. But the songs just don't make the cut.
