Gorgoroth
Pentagram
[Embassy]

There was a time when GORGOROTH was playing True Norwegian Black Metal... And they were signed on underground labels truly dedicated to the old spirit of our favourite music ! Their first CD, "Pentagram", was first out on the ultra cult Embassy prods, before it was released by their second label, Malicious recs. No need to say that their music was far more interesting than the one thay play now ! The songs on this CD are pure black metal anthems ; a bit like DARKTHRONE or BURZUM, GORGOROTH managed to create a style in Northern Black Metal, which is quite a great performance because this band appeared only in 1993 and this album was released in 1994, so many bands had already entered the scene and it was hard to create something that had not been already done. I would comment GORGOROTH's music as "wild black metal", because it's full of fury and anger, but don't be afraid : they are really skilled musicians (Norwegians have always been better musicians than Polish or French ones...) and the sound is EXCELLENT ("the Grieghallen touch" as many could say). Such tracks as "Katarinas Bortgang", "Ritual", "(under) the pagan megalith" are featured on this CD, so if you don't have it in your collection it's time to do something... Even if the second edition (the Malicious one) is no longer available, I guess Century Media re-issued this album recently, so you have no excuse !
