Lord Wind
Rites Of The Valkyries
[No Colours]

LORD WIND is the project of Rob Darken / Robert Fudali, creator of the Mighty GRAVELAND. The music he plays with that band is ancient pagan/slavonic & epic music that you could compare, for example, with the music from movies like "Conan the barbarian" (this is especially true on the band's second release, "Heralds of fight"). Well, this 3rd release is a perfect mix between its first two albums : it combines the power of "Heralds of fight" and the melancholy of "Forgotten songs". This is the perfect music for the medieval battles all members of the Polish Black Metal scene perform each year in Poland (you can have an example of such fights on GRAVELAND's "1000 swords" digipak re-issue on No Colours records), and if you like medieval and powerful atmospheres you can buy this album, for sure you'll love it ! But note that it's different from MORTIIS' releases as you don't especially feel like sleeping after 10 minutes... Even if their style is different, I would compare LORD WIND to ARCANA as I think they are both really powerful medieval bands, whereas many acts in that style manage to become realy quickly boring... "Rites..." could be the perfect soundtrack for a good version of "Excalibur". But I still have one question for Darken : why are the latest GRAVELAND releases similar to LORD WIND's ones ? Because I thought this side project had been created in order to make music that didn't fit in GRAVELAND's concept, and now GRAVELAND has become a copy of LORD WIND...
