Infernum
...And The Light Has Died
[Independent]

I picked this up the other day and it has been in my player consistently for the past hours. Now that I have heard all of the Infernum material, that being the demo trx. ("The Dawn Will Never Come"), the debut cd, and this, I can honestly say that this my favorite. Void of any vocals, this music propels one into a very desolate state of ancient medieval atmosphere.

I feel that this lp, "...and the Light has Died", is very similar to Fenriz' Isengard project, as they both have a similar metallic folk tinge to their compositions. In the case of Isengard that is obviously contrasted with vocal structures, however in Infernum, these particular structures are left out, which creates an ambience all the more haunting. I have no idea of who is playing on this lp, the song tracks, or the song lengths so its all very mysterious! Great acoustic guitars melded in with the galloping riffs and pounding drums. The percussion is, for the most part slow, but occasionally speeds up into a gallop. No blasts though. The guitars are like those on "Taur..." although now they are played over a distinct layering in several parts; this consists of either a clean electric guitar, or a distant acoustic guitar. At some points the material slows down entirely, almost resembling a doom-folk hybrid of some sort. Absolutely amazing tracks, get in touch if you want a copy.
