Abruptum
Vi Sonus Veris Nigrae Malitiaes
[Full Moon]

Newer Abruptum material regurgitating dark ambience that was found on all the older cds as well. I say if you are going to go all out like Abruptum, and claim that your music is "the audial essence of pure black evil," why not make it so? There are few good screams every now and then (around the twelve and thirty minute marks) but the rest of the album doesn't really do much. Why not just go all out sadism? Melek-Tha do this type of thing ten times better, and I think that's because they aren't held back in any way. I think listening to the "Rite Of Spring" frightens me more than this ever has.

Dedicated to Evil (MARDUK)- It's Dungeons and Dragons partner. Released in '95 on Full Moon. I recommend the demos; the band was better when All was still in there. Also the "De Profundus" track, or whatever it's called, is very good as well.

All in all, I love Abruptum and always will; but it simply seems that originality has been lost over the years. Listen to the Satanist Tunes and the progression, or perhaps regression, is overly apparent. There are some great fucked up chorus/duet vocal sections which are mechanically distorted and they sound awesome. Also there are two or three great screams on the album which raise the hair on your neck; get some more of these and the album would kill!! In the meantime, I'll prefer Hollow Earth, Atrax Morgue, No Festival Of Light, and Melek-Tha.
