The DLA "scene": users' own compositions

I seem to recall this being posted before so forgive me if this is the same topic, but I'm looking for people to post up any attempts at making your own music, metal or otherwise. I'm also interested in feedback on some experiments in black metal I did a couple of years ago.

Recorded using a keyboard and a little Marshall amp with the distortion and reverb way up (there are no guitars on this recording). I had a friend program the drums for me. Obviously the whole thing is primitive as fuck, but I wonder if anyone thinks it has potential.

Anyone else want to share their attempts?

The distorted keyboards seems a bit gimmicky, since you are essentially just using them where the guitars would be in black metal and not really changing anything else.  Still, you are obviously trying to do something different from what's been done so I think you should keep it up.  You should maybe lessen the distortion and use more layers of different melodies to make the music more complex.

Here's a composition of mine. Nothing profound or new, but I put as much emotion and energy as I can into it.
I didn't like this.  It seems like you're playing black metal just to say that you play black metal.  Attempt something "profound or new" next time.

Now I don't know if these are unique or transcendent, but at least I'm trying.  I'm making a concept album of the seven wonders of the ancient world, which is really close to being finished, and I'll post a link to a free download of it here when it is. So here are two completed songs for that:

I recorded a demo a few years back that was released about a year later, this was the only song that I think is OKAY on it. The rest when I hear it is accidental "war" metal garbage, but this song stands out to me. I was going for a Profanatica/Beherit vibe. I play all instruments. There were supposed to be vocals, but I never recorded them.

This is an exercise with ambient sounds, in the first part (i realized after that it has a hint at Debussy, in my ears) and, in the second part it hints to one of Moriccone's soundtracks from the 80's... I must say i'm very new at this so any criticism is welcomed.

Tolkien as a Libertarian.
Sammaellofi:So for now on, when someone asks you what good metal is, don't say Slayer, Darkthrone, Morbid Angel, but instead say Hell Awaits, Transilvanian Hunger and Blessed are the Sick.

Cheers for the feedback. I recorded with keyboards because I can't play guitar basically. But I am going to embark on writing longer pieces with more complexity. I like your ambient stuff, reminds me of Summoning mixed with Dead Can Dance.

There are already lots of threads about this.  Anyway, if anyone's interested in my stuff, search the forums for Wiht or Ex Nihil, and you'll likely find it.

I do not agree with the more radical and cruel ideas exposed on the old anus website and never will.

Tracklist:
1. Lighthouse at Alexandria
2. Colossus of Rhodes
3. Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
4. Statue of Zeus at Olympia
5. Hanging Gardens of Babylon
6. Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
7. Great Pyramid of Giza

This is a dark ambient album I've been working on, and just finished.  I apologize if this doesn't warrant its own thread, but some users have already expressed interest in a few of the songs I've shown here.  Since Anus has essentially nurtured my music taste throughout my teenage years, and still acts as a strong influence on it today, I hope that some of you here might appreciate this work.

It can be download here (for free): http://www.mediafire.com/?p27mrtwcf9y65yd

Or alternatively here, if you want some quality other than 320 kbps: http://valscharuhn.bandcamp.com/

Getting FLACs.  I liked the stuff you put up on youtube, can't wait to listen to this later today.

Great! At least someone isn't asking for a pat on the back just because he's got some half-finished songs on youtube. Offense meant: I've gotten tired of people promoting their half-assed stuff very shortly after it started. If you want to make a truly unprofessional impression then by all means keep uploading songs that aren't even finished and ask for opinions attention. I respect Cargest for uploading his demo a while ago, I didn't think it was that great but at least it's a finished product. And now Andrew is sharing something that appears to be at least worth checking out.  But most of you should feel ashamed for going to this forum (of all places) and sharing amateur crap that you know isn't great anyway. Take your shit to myspace.com where it belongs and come back when you truly have something that's worth showing off like a demo or an EP or something. Until then you're not worthy of any attention and you're only making this forum look like a special educations class.

This is quite good. I like the "wonders of the world" concept and I think the music does it justice. I'd lump this in the same category as Rob Darken's stuff but it's definitely not simulative. You create good atmospheres, I'll be checking out some of your other works too. Just a friendly tip: try to put more different moods in your songs, right now they seem mostly monotonous (in an emotional sense) But these are still powerful tracks nevertheless. Thanks for sharing them.

Umbrage:  I don't think the budding musicians around here should be asked to evaluate their own work in the sense of it being "amateur," or something they "know is not that great."  That's not an easy call for an artist to make about their own work.

However, Umbrage makes one supreme point to the musicians here:  at the very least, you should probably sit on anything that you, yourself, do not consider FINISHED.
