This'll take some listening to get accustomed to.  He has quite an odd sense of harmony, though not wholly inappreciable.

Arvo Part is the most significant composer of the classical tradition in the twentieth century.  He composes in a contemplative, 'non-dramatic' style which most people on this forum can't seem to grasp.

Recommended pieces are the Passio, Tabula Rasa, Fratres (the cello and piano arrangement is my favourite) and De Profundis.  Spiegel im Spiegel is a nice introduction to his work.

Excuse my ignorance, but isn't a lot of metal minimal? Black Metal in particular?
