Exclusive: DISSECTION Frontman JON NÖDTVEIDT Commits Suicide - Aug. 18, 2006
DISSECTION frontman Jon Nödtveidt has committed suicide, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. More details will be made available shortly.

Nödtveidt formed DISSECTION in 1989 and released two full-length albums with the group — "The Somberlain" (1993) and "Storm of the Light's Bane" (1995) — before he was convicted in Sweden of felony murder of 37-year-old homosexual Algerian Josef Ben Maddour in 1997. He was released from prison in 2004, at which point he restarted DISSECTION.

DISSECTION announced in May that it would split up imediately following its final performances in support of its recently released CD, "Reinkaos". The band was subsequently forced to cancel its two previously announced appearances in North America (Sept. 1 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA and Sept. 6 at B.B. King Blues Club in New York City) after Nödtveidt was denied legal entry into the United States as a result of his conviction.

DISSECTION's most recent album, "Reinkaos", was released in May on The End Records.

He probably realized his new album was complete crap, yet it was already too late so it was best that he end his life iright away :D

Damn that's a bummer... I really like old Dissection (I didn't get a chance to listen to their newer stuff.) I was planning to see their last tour.   :'(

Never heard of dissection.

But if that's true, what a weakling.

I still liked the old stuff, despite all that nasty melody and harmony business. ::)  Either way, I have no use for suicides(other than in dire circumstances) - so as Sgt. Barnes proclaimed in Platoon, "Everybody's gotta die some time."

Hail Sacramentum

They're the better band, but "The Somberlain" is a great album especially if you listen to it as a lost Iron Maiden recording when Bruce Dick-in-son had a sore throat (from what activity, we might ask... Englishmen LOL).

In a world of parasites and leeches and morons, Jon Notdtdvdtdedveitedvt was a contributor and a great guitarist. I wish to avoid Chuck Schuldiner/Teabag Darrell syndrome but it's not gonna kill us to note we lost a good one with this dude. His career mistake was not dropping the death vocals and going mainstream metal for "Thtorm of the Lightth Bane," which ended up being an inferior ripoff of "The Somberlain" instead. But -- in any genre, "The Somberlain" is a masterpiece.

Official Statement about Jon's death

"As rumours have started to spread we feel obliged to confirm Jon Nödtveidt's death.
Jon Nödtveidt was a man who lived his life according to his convictions and True Will. A couple of days ago he chose to end his life by his own hands. As a true Satanist he led his life in the way he wanted and ended it when he felt that he had fulfilled his self-created destiny. Not everyone will have understanding or acceptance for his personal path in this life and beyond, but all must respect his choice.

Those of us who have met him in his last days can assure that he was more focussed, happier and stronger than ever. It is our full conviction that he left this world of lies with a scornful laughter, knowing that he had fulfilled everything that he had set up for himself to accomplish. The empty space that he leaves behind will be filled with the dark essence that he manifested through his life and black-magical work. His legacy and Luciferian Fire will live on through those few who truly knew him and appreciated his work for what it really was and still is. As our brother's goal in life and death never was to "Rest in Peace", we will instead wish him victories in all battles to come, until the Acosmic Destiny has been fulfilled.

For the glory of the Dark Gods and the Wrathful Chaos!
218"

"Jon Nödtveidt (aged 31) killed himself by shooting somewhere between August 14th and 16th. Swedish police found him in his apartment the 16th of August 2006, and so far the death reason is uncertain." (from metal- archives)

Yeah, we lost a good one. Allthough, I do not like his newer stuff, I have respect for the man carefully planning his suicide and hinting to all of us in plain view: The "rebirth, the "final" gigs, the "final" interview...this was off their myspace. Brilliant.

DISSECTION FORCED TO CANCEL SHOWS IN LA AND NYC - SEPTEMBER, 2006

After continued delays via the US Immigration Services, vocalist and guitarist Jon Nödtveidt has been denied legal entry into the United States. The reason being his previously prison sentence from 1998. The band was supposed to play two stateside concerts, at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on September 1 and the BB King's in New York on September 6.

Jon states: "We knew from the beginning that there was a risk that I might be denied entry into the US because of my past but we (the band and the agencies involved) were prepared to take that risk. It's very unfortunate for everybody involved; the fans, the band and its representatives as well as the promoters. I have served my time and we were really looking forward to these final gigs. To our American fans: In spite of everything; see you in spirit! Fuck the Law! Chaos Forever!"

Since In Aeternum and Sacramentum enjoyed copying Dissection so much, I wonder if they will off themselves, too.
