Electronic related:

Cocteau Twins - Garlands
Girls Under Glass - Humus

Perhaps aesthetically dated and not really pure electronic but perhaps worth listening to for some of you.....

Garlands seems like pure gothic rock. Sexy music though. For that 80s darkwave atmosphere, I'd recommend Trisomie 21.

Most people here already seem to agree on Klaus Schulze, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Autechre and Biosphere.

I also enjoy Brian Eno's ambient music, Aphex Twin (especially Selected Ambient Works series), Murcof, Four Tet, Amon Tobin, Portishead, Coil. Many of the more mainstream-sounding acts like DJ Shadow, Boards of Canada, Deadmau5, Daft Punk, Shpongle etc have some really brilliant spots in their catalogue along with (usually) some throwaways.

Sven Grünberg is very similar to Tangerine Dream and Schulze. He also composed for the film The Dead Mountaineer Hotel, which gets compared to Stalker.

lf you ever go to Myrtle Beach on spring break, drive down the strip playing Hamburger Lady at full blast.  It will scare some wiggers' penises back up into their torsos.
