There are some that are happy as fuck to be there. For instance Gianna Michaels is probably the only female to ever "fuck" a man, rather than being fucked. Loves the dick. Sunny disposition for a porn star as well. This is an example of a person who straight up doen'st care and revels in hedonism. But for every one of her there's a sad looking thing that looks like she has bills to pay, 4 kids back home and an 8 ball of coke she is craving.
Male porn stars are treated more like props and have less at stake. They could easily re-enter the world even with their past hanging over their head. You still have to wonder about the mind of Max Hardcore or those two white dudes who ram women's throats until the vomit pours out on ghettogaggers.

I don't respect or disrespect pornstars any more or less than other professions. I don't understand society's fixation with their morality. Most people aren't that serious about marriage and relationships anyway. In a lot of ways, I like how pornstars aren't hypocritical. They are honest with their hedonism and embrace it. That's not my personal solution to hedonism, but I certainly harbor no ill will towards pornstars. I'm sure there are plenty of swell people in the industry, just as there are plenty of shitheads.

I've lived in various places in the American southwest, including the porn centers of Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and I attended the AdultCon in Las Vegas shortly after I turned 18. Most of the actors and actresses were ten dollars short of a dimebag, especially the women. A few of the older ones were rather cordial and didn't seem completely brain dead, but I could tell a life of what is essentially prostitution had taken it's toll on them and their ability to relate with other people.

What does this have to do with the current situation? The OP asked us if we personally respect them, and I personally have a neutral position. My mother and sister are conservative, and I'm not having a wife or daughter. I don't play imagination games, sorry--I'm a bit too old for that. Realistically, porn actresses and actors do not bother me or my family, and the porn industry is successful due to mankind's current problems with relationships. It's just an effect, really.

On another note, I wouldn't want my mother or sister being public school teachers. That doesn't mean that I disrespect school teachers. It is the same with porn: I wouldn't want my family members being involved, but I don't actively disrespect the porn industry. Both the porn industry and public school system are problems erected by our collective lack of concern; they aren't moral issues to be tackled directly.

Don't call these people mentally unsound, true or untrue. It's too easy with questions of morality: Lets call them crazy! These actions may simply not be a part of their moral paradigm, some may (pure conjecture) dislike their vocation, but would be unable to come up with any "real" reason why it was "bad". Others would accept it with open arms, seeing nothing wrong with it at all; perhaps not realizing the value of chastity. It doesn't matter that much. If a society's own values are degraded, you will naturally have individuals who don't care or understand. It's simply not relevant to them, it seems idiotic to them, unneccessary.

They're certainly not worthy of respect if you place store in more chaste values. Pornstars especially, they do indeed champion their lack of those particular values through their medium.

You don't have to be a psychologist to know when someone isn't mentally healthy. When you are a non-asperger ("neurotypical")
 you can sense other peoples mental disposition after having a few conversations with them and seeing them everyday as one does in High School.

Sex can be part of a process that enlivens its participants and awakens them to the subtle realms of power that are the base level of reality. Generally, prostitution does the inverse of this.

Pornography is even more pitiful than prostitution because it is so heavily mediated. What was already a dead act is further deadened by the fact that it is vicariously consumed through media.

Do you respect porn stars? Do you respect people who work in a slaughter-house? Do you respect fast-food workers? These are all similar professions.
