They cheapen sex and therefore human relationships.
No. People cheapen sex and human relationships, which is EXACTLY why porn is so popular and lucrative.
Spectrum, you've talked about how you lament being looked down upon for your age, but the way you play devils advocate is very adolescent.
Lamentation?? Don't be so dramatic. Also, I'm not playing devil's advocate. Porn is just a result of humanity's hypocrisy (a form of incompetence brought on by poor will or understanding).
If you don't believe me, ask yourself, would you approve if your daughter, wife, mother or sister chose such a path? If your answer is no, then you are contradicting yourself.
What does this have to do with the current situation? The OP asked us if we personally respect them, and I personally have a neutral position. My mother and sister are conservative, and I'm not having a wife or daughter. I don't play imagination games, sorry--I'm a bit too old for that. Realistically, porn actresses and actors do not bother me or my family, and the porn industry is successful due to mankind's current problems with relationships. It's just an effect, really.
On another note, I wouldn't want my mother or sister being public school teachers. That doesn't mean that I disrespect school teachers. It is the same with porn: I wouldn't want my family members being involved, but I don't actively disrespect the porn industry. Both the porn industry and public school system are problems erected by our collective lack of concern; they aren't moral issues to be tackled directly.
In short, your imaginary scenario is flawed. It may work for you, but on an objective level, it's not very useful.
I know that you most likely realize people who turn to prostitution invariably have mental issues of one variety or another.
You are projecting again. No, I do not know this. Please direct me to the study from where this information concerning the correlation between prostitution and mental illness comes.
