Audiofile and Megaupload

I was searching on Filestube, and it would show every single one that was on Mediafire.  There was not a single live one for Emperor.

Which ones died and which method did we use on them?

The idea of setting up a darknet with public links is appealing to me.

The ones that have died are the more popular bands.  Morbid Angel, Burzum, Darkthrone.  They were other people's uploads, not our own.  I'm gonna bite the bullet and start uploading my own stuff properly.  I did a little searching and one guy said right on his blog that Mediafire deleted all his stuff without notice or explanation, so although I don't completely understand the finer points of darknets, that does seem like a pretty good route.

What we basically need to do is to upload our own stuff and then make sure it doesn't attract a lot of attention from Mediafire or Rapidshare or whatever you use, as I am assuming that the uploads that are the most visible or most frequented will be the ones taken down.  A primitive thought here would be to not label your files in an obvious manner.  Rather than "Morbid Angel - Blessed are the Sick.zip"  Go with "Mrbd Angl - BATS.zip" or something like that.  Just spit balling there, maybe it would have no effect one way or the other.

And again, just to make clear, the point of audiofile is to share hard-to-find or out of print material and also preview/learn about music that you will eventually buy.

Anyway, I'll fool around this week with uploading my own CDs and seeing if certain upload sites might be better/easier than others.

They were other people's uploads, not our own.

This was true on Megaupload, too.

Remember when people insisted on posting links in [ code ] [ /code ] brackets? That didn't prevent the links from disappearing.

What caused them to disappear:

(1) They're on BLOGSPOT, a GOOGLE project.
(2) They have high search visibility
(3) They were targetting commercial releases in "CD replacement" bitrates

If you upload to Mediafire, and post the link here and not there, it should be OK. We do not want mainstream releases or collector's quality stuff anyway, except for out of print stuff. Out of print stuff can go up in lossless form as well.

The problem with posting stuff like "All the links are disappearing!!!" is that then people stop contributing. Which has kind of happened here.

Whatever, I continue uploading... albeit a bit slower than usual since our local ISP is having fuckin' issues because everyone here is bittorrenting anal weeaboo porn full time...

Aye.  I have never been good with knowledge regarding this kind of thing, and I've always just mooched off this website, to which I now feel guilty.  I will do my best to help come up with sollutions.

Once again, are torrents out of the question?  I keep this particular computer on all the time pretty much.  Perhaps there are not enough users to sustain this?

For my inaugural proper upload I chose Schumann's Symphony No. 1!  I love that one and I think it's good for Classical novices such as myself:  nothing too subtle, only 30 minutes, rousing, and happy.  I think it will appeal to metal-heads as well - lots of good "riffs" in that symphony - haha!

Well, the real test will be when I or someone uploads Blessed are the Sick, A Blaze in the Northern Sky, or Burzum/Aske.  Conservationist is probably right:  as long as we only post the link here it should probably stay up.  In the mean time, I encourage other users to keep scouring the Blogspots for other people's uploads and post them here!

I'll get to work on high-profile mainstreamish death metal and black metal then.

I uploaded Far Away From the Sun for everyone.  Enjoy, Hessians!

I can do some of the important bands under 'M', namely Massacra, Mayhem, Monstrosity, Morpheus Descends, Motorhead, Mutiilation if no one else has planned to already.

Heck yeah, man.  The Ms are all yours!

Great idea. I'm working my way through S. On some of these, I don't have the original CDs handy and don't trust the "internet sourced" rips, so it's taking a bit longer.
