You could not be more right on this subject matter. How you approach the guitar is the first step. Sure, you want to slay the masses with riffs from hell, but you can not do that for long if you fade away.

I am making it a habit to train my forearms, too so I can have more muscle there and then control.

Anyone can get good on guitar, with enough practice and determination.
But you can't get really, really good, until you understand why you are doing it.

In the end, it's about how many hours you've logged in. Jam on a riff you like, but is kind of challenging and perfect it, then move on to playing the whole song, then harder songs after that.

obviously this is great for technique, but to be a truly good musician, you have to understand the whys of what you are playing.

No point in learning all of Piece of Time if you don't understand what makes it so special.
