Stop Hobby Metal

Stop Hobby Metal

Another black metal band.

If you're great, that's one thing. But no one great is in the genre who wasn't in it back in the 1990s. Everyone since has botched it for several reasons:

(1) No reference point to the meaning behind it
(2) Participation not excellence the goal
(3) Too many social and economic pressures

Black metal is drowning under thousands of do-nothing hobby bands.

These are people who want to justify their lives with being "important" black metal musicians, collectors, etc.

Even if you are good at your instruments, are you good at music? Incompetent technicality and superior technicality are equal on the level of songwriting...

But it's a circle-jerk where a few thousand people validate each other, like a hipster clique.

Stop it. Just stop it. Either dedicate your life to it and go all out, or don't do it at all. You're driving away anyone with a brain who can tell the difference between purposeless shit and quality.

Or if you want to do it for a hobby, just keep the music to yourself, like all sane person do when they have an hobby.

Good point. People used to have bands that only played at friend's birthday parties and stuff. Of course, then you have to do Bruce Springsteen covers.

Social conditions probably aren't right for producing anything but hobby bands (too many shitheads with too much input, too many distractions). Will have to wait for metal to be forgotten about for a few decades, then to be picked up again in a future desert-earth without the internet.
