Is lack of Global Awareness good?

Many are quick to label this person "dumb." But what is she missing by not knowing what Europe is? She's richer than her naysayers (if wealth is the measure of her self-worth) and doesn't need to impress anyone with her knowledge of world affairs (isn't that what it boils down to?)

Is this an example of a "dumb" american? Or is ignorance bliss?

Well, I didn't watch the video, but if she really doesn't know what Europe is that's a bit much, but ultimately I agree that a certain lack of complete and total global awareness is good.  Essentially, you don't want to spread yourself too thin.  Baudrillard famously said information annihilates meaning.  The wider we cast our gaze, the more everything simply becomes information.

I love not knowing as much as knowing.  I love being a little bit "out of it."  I love telling people "I have no idea what the hell you're even talking about."  It's important to ignore things if you want to get your priorities straight.
