Ildjarn-Nidhogg - Hardangervidda

It's been almost a decade now since this was released and I'm curious to hear some opinions as I think it's a very worthy album that rarely gets a mention. But for pure ambient synth music evolving out of the second wave of black metal, I would view this almost as a definitive statement, epitomizing the isolated, naturalistic aspect of the genre distilled from its fury.

Hardangervidda hits me in that way that most ambient albums fail to do. I think it's because of Vidar's rooting in the aesthetic and the symbolic via Black Metal that translates into his keyboard work. Also, I prefer the midi-Sound, whereas these days I've heard people complaining about it left and right. There's something of the fantastical about the tone of the midi, that reminds me of the 80's, of childhood and maybe video games that dealt with fantasy topics. I'd like to hear a return to this angle of keyboard players.
