I remember listening to Tales From The Thousand Lakes and being pretty excited about it when "Black Winter Day" and "Drowned Maid" in succession raised my hopes after a shaky start to the album. Then "In the Beginning" started to play and I slowly began to realize that I was being fucked in the ass. That's what happened to Amorphis.

I'm not a massive fan but I still play The Karelian Isthmus fairly regularly. Tales From The Thousand Lakes has a few ok parts but is overall too goofy for my liking.

Privilege of Evil was pretty much their peak. That's the album I always go to when I want to hear something from Amorphis.

They started to get real fruity after the first couple of songs on Tales From The Thousand Lake. The second half of that album is like Iron Maiden trying to play death metal. Just dumb circus music.

The Karelian Isthmus/Privilege of Evil is pretty awesome but fuck these guys.  I clicked on the link and saw acoustic guitars and a chubby dude blowing a flute and I instantly closed it.  Cynical, I'm almost pissed off that you would alert us to such gayness.

....But in all seriousness, they're pretty much making AOR right now. That has to be the most unintentionally funny decline of a death metal band I've ever heard of.

Oh, you missed the "best" parts, like the chick smiling into the camera while shaking a mariachi, and the singer (whose name I don't actually know) "singing" one of the riffs from late in the song with a jazz-style "la la la la lie lie lie".

Also, the crowd is hilarious.  Especially the goth chick who nods along in a desperate attempt to look like she cares at all, even though it's clear that she's bored out of her mind.

Morbid Angel was funny, but it was more "this is just fucking sad" funny. This Amorphis video is legitimately hilarious as they're trying to be a part of the "hip" scene SOOOOOO bad, or at least that's how this vid appears.

Also, Sweden has crap like Soilwork, In Flames, etc. Pretty pathetic in its own right. A lot of what we mentioned are just power metal bands failing at power metal, so then they attempt to integrate death metal, and fail at that too (add in also optional failing when using folk influences).

Don't know what you guys are talking about. Amorphis died in that same bush crash as Sentenced back in 1994. Scandinavian mass transit should really hold their drivers to higher standards.

But seriously, I am hoping that Tomi Koivusaari has a retro-death project of at least Vallenfyre quality level in him somewhere. Otherwise, the continued existence of this band is rather sad. Gotta love that porno sax, though.
