SLAYER WINS FIRST-EVER GRAMMY AWARD

Los Angeles, CA -- February 11, 2007 -- Slayer, the undisputed kings of thrash/punk/metal have been awarded their first-ever Grammy Award. The track, "Eyes of the Insane," from the band's most recent album, "Christ Illusion," took the Grammy in the category of Best Metal Performance. Fellow category nominees included Lamb of God, Mastodon, Ministry and Stone Sour.

This was Slayer's second Grammy nomination, the first being in 2002 for the track "Disciple" (from "God Hates Us All"), also in the Best Metal Performance category.

Slayer, currently headlining a North American tour, did not attend the Grammy's presentation, but vocalist/bassist Tom Araya had this to say about the win from his hotel room in Columbus, OH: " Jeff [Hanneman] and I put a lot into 'Eyes of the Insane' so we're thrilled that the Grammy voters took the time to listen to it, and then vote for it. We're out here on the road and we're all really, really happy."

That doesn't seem so "funny" as it does "typical."

Well, what could you expect from guys in their age...I say they should quit( judging by albums, after Seasons...), but those are just my words.

Its like metallicas master of puppets and ending up where they are now, its impossible to recreate something like reign in blood

That "National Day of Slayer" thing pisses me off so much. Leave it to a fucking Catholic to call his band satanic, then claim 6/6/06 as their national day.

I don't recall http://nationaldayofslayer.org being an official SLAYER site, nor do I recall Tom Araya being the brains behind the band or its imagery.

I can't remember where I read the interview, but I do recall that since the early 90's tom had ceased to be a major force of creative direction, and that he's been feeling out of the loop or something similar. Plus many of Araya's lyrics weren't satanic, but often along far different lines(At Dawn They Sleep, etc)

All he ever really provided was some of the early lyrics and the recognizable voice and face.  He hardly even plays his assigned instrument.  Not to say he is a trivial inclusion, but him being "Catholic" (whatever the hell that means) doesn't have a lot of impact.

Some people like this guy, does definitive not have much to do on their spare time, or he should wake up and realize that Slayer does not have any national day...:
