New Finnish Death Metal

Wasn't too inspired by either. Krypts is like a lost Asphyx album without the unpredictable, and Vorum seems like war metal made over into Privilege of Evil.

Fair enough.

They at least got past my outer bullshit defences. The point of the thread was just to list a few semi-decent Finnish bands, as I was wondering whether there might a bit of osdm movement there if other people had more examples, whether or not they are top-tier. I forgot to include this one of course:

Chthe'ilist is bad IMO (composition falls flat really fast, focuses a lot of riffs in the style of ____ - really wanted to like, will not listen to again),

Krypts is meh (wanted to like, tried to listen to multiple times),

Vorum is pretty good not great (listened to multiple times, will probably listen to it in the future)

What about this Finnish old skool stuff: Shrapnel Storm

old skool

The fact that you used this term really drives me away from wanting to ever check out that band.
No.

Having reviewed the thread, baby Jesus is most definitely weeping at this point.

Sounds like a cross between Overkill and Malevolent Creation. Very much a speed metal influence. Unfortunately rather predictable in composition.

His Majesty at the Swamp / Black Arts Lead to Everlasting Sins / Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism / Oath of Black Blood / Privilege of Evil / Dawn of Possession / In Battle There is No Law / Thousand Swords / To Mega Therion

The best of the Finnish stuff out there seems to be:

Krypts EP
Stench of Decay - Visions Beyond Death, Where Death and Decay Reign (minus the first track)
Corpsessed

The new Imprecation is kind of clumsy but very good by today's standards. It's still not as good as Jehovah Denied (despite the overlap of material) or their earlier material. Seems like it may have been rushed.

Innumerable Forms's "Frozen to Death" (the two new tracks) is one of the best things to happen to death metal in probably 10+ years. I doubt it will stick with the community because of the aesthetic, but it's far and above the smartest, least pandering new stuff I've yet heard.

This band/album reminds me quite a lot of Greek Black Metal, rather than (Finnish) death metal.

Interesting connection, now that you mention it I'm hearing it.  Makes me like this album even more.

This band doesn't fucking record enough. "Dark Worship" was brilliant, and I agree the two new tracks are fantastic as well. If I had the money I'd finance them myself for a full length. Such patience in the songwriting - always knowing when to let individual notes make their mark, slowly developing melodies, riff to riff to riff seamlessly and COHERENTLY; if people don't know this band yet get on it, NOW.

What are your issues with the aesthetic? I've not found anything disagreeable.
No.
