Shitting on the work of others - without the accompaniment of evenhanded, purposeful criticism - is unequivocally malevolent. A waste.
Then I am an unrepentant malevolent wastrel. This is nonsense. You are pretty much saying ridicule is something you cannot do. Mockery is ruined by `evenhanded, purposeful criticism`. Perhaps you should see it a different way. There comes a point where criticism becomes worthless, or actively harmful. Do you submit everything in your life to a socratic process?
sentence of my post was intended to moderate that one statement. I am in agreement with Socrates on the importance of an examined life. However, you would be right to call me a hypocrite had I stated that I do not ridicule. Such behavior is an inevitable byproduct of conflict and disagreement.
The intended point was: derision is likely less productive with written correspondence. There are more effective ways of getting your point across, while also being self-aware. The medium provides ample opportunity to reflect upon and temper one's opinions before publication.
You are correct in this assertion:
There comes a point where criticism becomes worthless, or actively harmful.
Certainly, there is never a single best method. The end product results from the critic's discretion. Or, just "chance".
I find this kind of behavior a little more acceptable "IRL". Forum writing is premeditated.
If one doesn't have the forethought to acknowledge their written opinions and tastes are skewed (if not laughably insignificant) they might be out of touch. [...]
Of course, forum conduct needn't always be serious.
