What have you kept listening to for the last 5 years?

Averse Sefira - Advent Parallax
Profanatica - Profanatitas de Domonatia

What's more recent that you think you will keep listening to?

Avzhia - In My Domains
Imprecation - Jehovah Denied

maybe Desecresy, Demoncy

still need to check out some of the more recent stuff: Derketa, Skepticism, Esoteric, Faustcoven, Abhor, and Primordial seem promising

What is missing from the above?

I Shalt Become - Requiem
Disma - Vault of Membros
any Paysage d'Hiver

other personal picks I've mentioned elsewhere

Albums from those lists I listen to these days, by year:
2008
Averse Sefira – Advent Parallax
Bahimiron – Southern Nihilizm

2009
The Chasm – Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm
Profanatica – Profanatitas De Domonatia
Beherit – Engram

2010
Blaspherian – Allegiance to the Will of Damnation

2011
Morbus 666 – Mortuus Cultus
Bahimiron – Rebel Hymns of Left-Handed Terror
Blaspherian – Infernal Warriors of Death
Apocalypse Command – Damnation Scythes of Invincible Abomination

2012
Demoncy – Enthroned is the Night
Incantation – Vanquish in Vengeance
Thevetat – Disease to Divide
Desecresy – The Doom Skeptron

Things that are not on that list but are from those years that I listen to:
2009
Aosoth – Ashes of Angels
Cruciamentum – Convocation of Crawling Chaos

2010
Weapon – From the Devil's Tomb
Profanatica – Disgusting Blasphemies Against God
Autopsy – The Tomb Within
Perdition Temple – Edict of the Antichrist Elect
Dececresy – Arches of Entropy

2011
Autopsy – Macabre Eternal
Maveth – Breath of an Abomination
Venenum – Venenum
Gevurah – Anno MMXI
Inquisition – Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm

2012
Weapon – Embers and Revelations
Doombringer – Sevenfold Pestilence
Maveth – Coils of the Black Earth
Vorum – Poisoned Void
Pseudogod – Deathwomb Catachesis

Things from the above years that are good, but I don't ever listen to because of better options from the same band:
Birth A.D. – Stillbirth of a Nation (excellent EP, obsoleted by the full-length)
Imprecation – Jehovah Denied (excellent demo, obsoleted by the full-length)
Katharsis – Fourth Reich (good, but VVorld VVithout End is the one I always reach for by this band)
Cruciamentum – Suspended in Desolation (the demo was better)
All of the Master albums (good, but the s/t is still the best)
Asphyx – Death The Brutal Way (good, but The Rack is better)

Of the albums on this list, I've only given listens at all to Sorcier Des Glaces' The Puressence of Primitive Forests and Beherit's Celebrate the Dead. I still enjoy both of them, and I probably should give some of the other titles on this list some attention.

The ones that have lasted for me:

-Averse Sefira - Advent Parallax: I actually prefer the less developed Averse Sefira albums e.g. Battle`s Clarion.
-Skepticism - Alloy
-Profanatica - Profanatitas de Domonatia
-Beherit - Engram
-Divine Eve - Vengeful and Obstinate: Really enjoyed this, wish they had done a full length in this Frost-y style.
-Summoning - Oath Bound
-Avzhia - In My Domains
-Lord Wind - Atlantean Monument and Ales Stenar

Also enjoyed a couple of tracks on the Rudra album. Too many mainstream elements which goes against the aesthetic, but some songs are effective. There are a few more albums and EPs which I occasionally listen to, like Blaspherian, The Chasm, Beherit, Sorcier des glaces and Demoncy. Most disappointing was Obsequiae based on the review. Disma I enjoyed initially but it hasnt lasted, what is the verdict on it now?

Here's the stuff I still listen to:

2008:

Legion of Doom - The Horned Made Flesh
Gridlink - Amber Grey
Master - Slaves To Society Re-Release
Skepticism - Alloy

2009:

Asphyx - Death... The Brutal Way
The Chasm - Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm
Profanatica - Profanititas de Domonatia
Beherit - Engram
Shrinebuilder - Shrinebuilder
Disma - Vault of Membros

2010:

Asphyx - Death... The Brutal Way
Averse Sefira - Advent Parallax
Blaspherian - Allegiance to the Will of Damnation
Birth A.D. - Stillbirth of a Nation

2011:

Gridlink - Orphan
Cianide - Gods of Death
Deceased - Surreal Overdose
Heresiarch - Hammer of Intransigence
Cruciamentum - Engulfed in Desolation
Obsequiae - Suspended in the Brume of Eos
War Master - Pyramid of the Necropolis
Blaspherian - Infernal Warriors of Death

2012:

Demoncy – Enthroned is the Night
Derkιta – In Death We Meet
Desecresy – The Doom Skeptron (just got this thanks to this board's rec)

I also really like Aosoth's releases and Autopsy's full length and EP from these years. Of all of the above I'd have to say Demoncy, Heresiarch, Cruciamentum, War Master, and Gridlink are my favorites. Gridlink in particular displays mastery of the grindcore genre many years after it had gone stagnant. Those two albums are 22 minutes of everything my grindy little heart could ask for.

Things that I want to investigate:

All of the Imprecation releases
Incantation – Vanquish in Vengeance
Legion of Doom – The Summoning of Shadows
All of the Lord Wind stuff
Master – The New Elite
Profanatica – Sickened by Holy Host / The Grand Masters Sessions
Thevetat - Disease to Divide
Intestine Baalism - Ultimate Instinct
Grave – Endless Procession of Souls
Avzhia - In my Domains

Stuff that I stopped listening to or didn't like:

Morbus 666 (really don't understand the fascination here, was bored the whole time listening to it)
Bahimiron (same complaints as above for Southern Nihilizm)
Terrorizer - Hordes of Zombies (it's good but wears itself out pretty quickly)
Divine Eve - Vengeful and Obstinate (this was just so....ordinary)

Blaspherian and Averse Sefira are the only texan bands i still listen to.  I used to really like Birth A.D`s EP but after hearing that underwhelming filler loaded LP i cant stand them.  No other texan bands caught my attention.

Gridlink is pretty cool but i keep that for occasional listens.  Im bummed i missed out on the LP that had both albums on it.

Skepticism has a great catalog but I keep their tunes for occasional listening

All Beherit gets good rotation around here.

Same goes for Profanatica but after hearing their newest EP Im starting to lose interest in the direction their going in.  Disgusting Blasphemies Against God is fucking awesome, even better than the debut. The song `Smashing Religious Fucking Statues`` brought back the Dethrone The Son Of God feel and is exactly what I love about this bands music.  I hope the newest LP spills forth the black cum that it promises.

I like Enthroned Is The Night the more I listen to it. That album just fills my house, i love the bass heavy sound.

Every time I hear Death The Brutal Way, i go and listen to Embrace The Death and The Rack right away.  The tracks shared on those two albums IS Asphyx, that was their mark, everything else is secondary and about half as good.

I have given each Master album more than enough chances but I have always found the lyrics a bit preachy.  Fuckin`Death is the one and only for me.

I like all Cianide. Except for the goofy intro lead to the song Luciferian Twilight

Lord Wind - Ales Stenar gets heavy play around my house. As soon as Atlantean Monument gets put on vinyl it will too.

I just gave the new Incantation a listen the other day , so I will have to give it a few more before forming an opinion.

Desecresy – The Doom Skeptron is MASSIVE. Finnally bought it yesterday cant wait til it comes in the mail.

Abhor - Ab Luna Lucenti, Ab Noctua Protecti I listen to occasionally but every time i get around to it, i really enjoy it.

Summoning are kings.

What's surprised me most about the above responses is how much metal you guys listen to! I'm not sure how I'd find the time.

Admittedly, I might only find the time to listen to some of these releases once every couple of months, but I still listen to them as opposed to not at all.

I have had Advent Parallax sitting around for over a year now and only listened to it three times maybe. The musicianship is compitent (at worst) and they do a good job compositionally because I can tolerate the ferocity of their sound without feeling like the music grates on my ears. But altogether I don't get the mood, I think. It sounds to me like Gorgoroth with more distinct sections in each song. I don't understand the praise for it; what does it really have to offer?

Von - Dark Gods: Seven Billion Slaves

Is this actually good? The re-recording of the Satanic Blood material was pretty awful.

To amend my list - I forgot Black Funeral's Vulkolak from 2010. This album competes with Empire of Blood/Vampyr as among their best.

Is this actually good?

Yes. Like Bathory's Twilight of the Gods however they traded off some "metalness" in production for dynamics. It's a neat experiment and fun to listen to.

For the original tracks, I prefer the original. Don't fix it if it ain't broke and you can't do better.
