U5BM is word filtered, no wiliness.

Gay Midget Fecal Pr0n (GMFP)
Narrow Squirting Bowel Movement
Pink Frothy AIDS
ARE YOU TALKIN TO ME?

Collect them all!

Oh. Indeed it is filtered. Well, excuse the accusation of wiliness, good sir.

Dont have to be PC to knock N5BM, it sucks, the bands suck, the ideology sucks too. Yeah sure there are a few exceptions, but they are not really notable (I can only think of NM atm). As far as the ideology is concerned, getting a lot of things right but some vital things wrong is worse than bad.

It's as you say, the music is awful. That's the most damning aspect of it. I'm positive that at some point the Norwegian black metal celebs had NS sympathies but the music was not shit. I will say however that the only worthwhile NS band I've experienced is Spear of Longinus.

I agree about Spear of Longinus. I'm listening to "Nazi Occult Metal" right now. Killer demo. The way they did the vocals would be cheesy if a less competent band tried to pull it off, but these guys are very competent composers. They're the perfect blend of punk and metal. "The Yoga of National Socialism" is their best album, and would be a good place to start for someone who hasn't heard them.

As for the ideology of National Socialist bands sucking, I think it may have to do with how much they distort it. A lot of those bands filter the ideology down to "I hate n*ggers" and leave it at that. That's another thing that sets SOL apart. You'll find none of that in their lyrics. They glorify war, chaos, and the ancient gods, and don't just yell about how great white people are.

I can imagine many reasons why you would say that, but I'm curious enough to ask you to clarify and elaborate. Do you take issue with National Socialism in general as an ideology? Or do you mainly have a problem with the bands?

I do take issue with NS as an ideology, I consider it a modernist perversion of tradition which as a consequence does a lot of shit right (because the source is great), but some fundamental shit wrong (no religion = insta-fail for instance). I suppose you could say I have NS sympathies? Also neo-nazis are just intolerable. As far as N5BM is concerned though, when it comes to music it is always music first. Not only do the bands suck, they talk big and suck on top of that. I am a big believer in ideological and spiritual integrity translating into great art (depending on the artist). When you see such artistic desolation it is a near-sure sign that something is wrong. This goes beyond black metal when it comes to NS. I have never seen any good Nazi or neo-Nazi art.

There were a couple of N5BM threads here a couple of years ago where this was discussed in detail. Maybe it will satisfy your curiosity.

Listening to Sacramentum - Finis Malorum. Anyone else wish that they had done more songs like Moonfog and Devide et Impera? I really liked the style on this EP. It was a tiny bit clumsy, but the refinement that led to FaftS also ditched some elements that I thought were great. The songwriting style is also a little different as a consequence, more circular on the full-length for some songs as compared to the climactic songs named above on the EP. I really like this heavy metal kind of black metal.

Reforming Christianity and reviving Nordic ideas is incompatible with the the claim of having no religion.

Well that's what I was going to say. Maybe trystero means that they don't have an established background or foundation in a traditional religion. I don't think such an establishment is necessary for religion though. Religion can be created most anywhere from most anything (and I'm talking of REAL religion, with a moral code, worship of aspects greater than the individual, rituals to transcend the mundane and profane existence, and the rest of that jazz).

I'll look for that older thread, trystero. Thanks for elucidating.

Sigh - Scorn defeat. I really liked it. It's raw and has some melodic, piano part at the same time and it's done in good taste.
Sort Vokter - Folkloric Necro Metal

I listened to Dawn - Nr Solen Thingamajig for a re-appraisal.  I would say it's better than Dissection but not as good as Far Away from the Sun.

Excuse me to disagree, but it is just a matter of likes
I prefer, also now hearing:

Dawn - Slaughtersun (Crown of the Triarchy)

and actually if not better (also by preference) just maybe Dissection style.

as for example

Raise Hell - Holy Target or Mork Gryning...similar styles (I think)I hope you understand me.

Dawn - Nr Solen Thingamajig

Fuck, I laughed really hard at this. Kind of like Burzum's Hlidjfkalsjfls.

Nausea - Extinction

Hey, good to see another fan of these guys here. Amy's voice is kind of annoying but the music holds up with the best of crust/hardcore.

As for what I've been listening to the past few days:

Absu (various albums, nothing past Tara)
Crucifier - Humans Are Such Easy Prey
Assck - Blindspot and Anticapital
Hellbastard - Ripper Crust and Heading For Internal Darkness

I also heard Into Oblivion's Creation of a Monolith yesterday. (I'm a late comer to this album I know) Only made it through once, but wow. Very intriguing. This is going to be an album to contemplate over. One thing's for sure, they've made death metal unlike ANY I have ever heard, and that is saying something. I think I need a day with just this album.
No.

Was listening to some Emperor today at work. It had been a while since I last heard them.

Deathhammer - Onward to The Pits

I always avoided it for the awful cover art but today i wanted to listen to something fast that actually has balls and this really came through.  Pretty much sounds like a  50/50 blend of old Destruction and Bathory and i love the way the singer screeches and screams throughout the whole thing. Cool album!

The new Sammath. First song and I'm sold. The new Birth A.D. is next.

I'm sorry comrade, I'm afraid I don't quite understand you.  My criticism of Dissection is that they are really not that subtle, in fact at times I would call them sappy.

Humanicide - I was just happy when I learned how to make the '' character.
His Majesty at the Swamp / Black Arts Lead to Everlasting Sins / Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism / Oath of Black Blood / Privilege of Evil / Dawn of Possession / In Battle There is No Law / Thousand Swords / To Mega Therion

I think Sacramentum FAFTS is excellent but there is something lacking. I can't put my finger on it, but it keeps the album from being a mainstay for me. I've never given Dawn a listen, only Niden Div.

She's decent, but the female voice is inferior to the male for this type of music. The rest of the album is great except for the abortion that occurs during track 6.

Extinction is on par with Amebix. Their work afterwards seems uninspired.

Agreed. I like the Cybergod EP too but for the most part the material 1991-92 is blah.

The Punk Terrorist Anthology releases are good collections for those interested.

Sort of related - do you enjoy Agnostic Front?
No.
