Speaking of Krieg, is there anything good by Krieg? All of it sounds like garbage to me. I listened to everything reviewed on the DLA. The reviews are also strangely more flowery and adjective-laden than they are descriptive. The feeling I get from Krieg is like looking at an ugly piece of modern sculpture, utter nihilism of the passive variety. Am I missing something here? It is the only DLA reviewed band I do not get at. all.Sono lo Scherno
is an album that has fascinated me for a number years. Apart from that, maybe parts of Rise of the Imperial Hordes
as well, particularly "End of Time".
At it's best, Krieg seems to be a distinct and at the time unprecedented resolution of the avant-garde aesthetic realized in early Blasphemy, summoning both profound ritual and savagery. The occasional insertions of ancient music ("Ruin Under the Burning Skies", "Knights of the Holocaust" ) provide a deeper, more abstract narrative still.
In some ways, this era of Krieg reminds me of At the Gates ca. Garden of Grief
and The Red In the Sky is Ours
. The more recent stuff, as well as the more widely hailed stuff, I haven't yet developed an appreciation for.
