Somehow, I don't think anyone is bothered when someone screws up English as their second language. Not all of us may think multiculturalism is a good idea, but we even tend to be forgiving of it from non-native speakers in our countries.
What drives us batshit is that our own people can't get it right anymore. I have even seen this error show up on CNN.com and Time magazine. It is not difficult, and if someone has been speaking English their whole life, they should know it.
I think it's my new gauge of the American collapse: how many major media outlets can still speak the language correctly.
